A COOL WEEKEND IMAGE...AND OTHER STUFF...

Rochesterians enjoying world class caffeinated beverages at Burly's, a totally cool and funky coffee house in Cannon Falls, after Saturday's Falls Duathlon. (Front row from L - Joanna Hall, Mederic Hall and Super Mario Minelli. Back row - two other totally cool people.)

* MTN congratulates Minneapolis's Pam Nielsen, who was the 10th amateur woman--20th woman overall--to cross the finish line at the inaugural St. George (UT) Ironman on May 1. Her time on the absolutely brutal course was 11:37:05. Only two pro women managed to better 10 hours and Wisconsin's Jackie Arendt, who placed 4th at the Chisago Half last season, had a brilliant race. She was top female amateur--7th woman overall--in a time of 10:36:23.

* St. Paul pro David Thompson placed 6th on Sunday at the 30th edition of Escape from Alcatraz. The men's field--led by Hunter Kemper--was arguably the deepest in the event's history.

* Later this week, MTN's Darin Wieneke will post a report on how Minnesotans fared at Escape From Alcatraz.

UPDATE: Bill Nevala sent us an e-mail identifying the unnamed folks in the picture above:

" the "two other totally cool people" from TriRochester in your photo from the Falls Duathlon. They are Pattie and Jeremy Ekman..." BN Bill went on to describe Pattie as a transplanted North Carolinan and Jeremy as a super brilliant IBM nerd.
