* 10 MINNESOTANS EARN TEAM USA BERTHS AT DU NATIONALS...RESULTS

USA Triathlon Coverage:

Richmond, VA - April 25, 2010 - Kaleb VanOrt of Mishiwaka, Ind., and Amy Farrell of Saranac Lake, N.Y., outlasted a record field of nearly 1,300 participants, including Travel Channel and NFL star Dhani Jones, to claim overall national titles Sunday at USA Triathlon's Duathlon Age Group National Championship.

VanOrt, a former collegiate runner at Notre Dame, clocked 5-kilometer run splits of 15:19 and 15:25 to earn the victory in his duathlon debut with a time of 1:30:39. VanOrt, 26, finished nearly 30 seconds ahead of overall runner-up Dave Slavinski (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and won the men's 25-29 age group by more than 4 minutes. READ

* Medina's Kevin O'Connor, 2009 US Duathlete of the Year, finished 6th overall and 2nd in his 35-39 AG. Kevin and nine other Minnesotans, including Ashley Heinlein, who won the 18-19W division, have earned Team USA invitations to compete at the 2010 ITU Duathlon World Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland next September 3-5.

* Minnesota's Worlds Qualifiers: WOMEN: Ashley Heinlein, 19, Stillwater (1st 18-19W!), Jill Hughes, 37, Medina (14th 35-39W), Ann Rhea, 63, Plymouth (8th 60-64W), Jean Wood, 61, Excelsior (9th 60-64W).

MEN: Kevin O'Connor, 39, Medina (2nd 35-39M), Dereck Podratz, 36, Lino Lakes (16th 35-39M), Dick Young, 40, Chaska (17th 40-44M), Dave Dow, 55, Stillwater (8th 55-59M), Charles Rhea, 63, Plymouth (14th 60-64M), Nick Vanduzee, 67, Chaska (5th 65-69M).

LIKELY PASSDOWN RECIPIENTS: John Heinlein III, 21, Stillwater (19th 20-24M), Cliff Owens, 38, Shorewood (22nd 35-39M).


* DKT makes money in FL. Rick Campins wins 40-44.

For the 3rd consecutive year St. Paul's David Thompson has cracked the overall top 10 at the ultra-competitive St. Anthony's Triathlon in St. Petersburg, FL. David finished 9th, earned $400 ($65,000 total purse), in the 4000-entrant event which celebrated it's 27th running on Sunday.

The men's pro winner was Cameron Dye, who managed to hold off fellow podium finishers Greg Bennett and two-time Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander. America's premier short course female triathlete Sarah Haskins won the women's pro contest.

Apple Valley's Rick Campins was also impressive on Sunday, winning the men's 40-44 AG in 2:10:41, 1:52 ahead of runner-up Jason Schuette of Stafford, VA. RESULTS

* (Morris Tribune) - Cold, wet weather didn't slow down any of the participants in the 26th annual Tinman Triathlon, held Saturday, April 23 at the University of Minnesota, Morris.

The triathlon includes a 1K swim, 30K bike, and 10K run.

Top medalists for the day are Megan Webster of Richfield, Minn., and Jose Rosales of Mankato, Minn. RESULTS

* ED. NOTES: Jose turned in at least three top 10 efforts in 2009: 4th @ Fairmont, 7th @ Peregrine Charities and 9th @ Albert Lea. Megan was 3rd at Tinman in '09 and cracked the top 5 at Green Lake last year.
