Minnesota is at the forefront of the exciting resurrection of the sport of duathlon in America. This is apparent when we look at the number, size and quality of the dus that are staged in our state these days. May is duathlon month; seven of our 15 run-bike-run events will be staged during that 31-day period. Iron Girl-Bloomington and the Minneapolis Du could be the two largest non-championship dus in the U.S. From a quality and prestige standpoint, these events plus the venerable Apple and talent-rich Gear West are as good as it gets.
Despite the sport's renewed popularity here in Minnesota, there are still several great early-season dus that deserve bigger numbers than they are currently drawing. Some of the events that we recommend highly include the super-scenic and well-managed Falls Du on May 1 and the Cinco du Mayo Du at Square Lake Park on May 8. Cinco boasts an absolute
ly magnificent bike course. Coming up on May 22 is the inaugural Green Lake Duathlon. Those who have raced at the Green Lake Tri in August know that this event, contested in rural Spicer and featuring a yummy post-race Ribfest, will be special.
And if you haven't signed up for the long-standing, world class Gear West and Apple Duathlons as yet, we encourage you to do so at your earliest opportunity. Not only will you be playinyour part in the resuscitation of the sport of duathlon in America, you will enjoy great racing experiences and prepare yourself for our state's triathlon season, which begins in earnest in June.
