WEEKEND NEWS...

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Highlights & Results (if available) of the Cinco du Mayo Duathlon and Take the Hill Triathlon.

Saturday's Take the Hill Triathlon--formerly the Gustie Tri--was won by Brian Severson, 46, of Lakeville, and Lydia Davitt, 24, of Minneapolis. Severson enjoyed a 44-second margin of victory over runner-up Dan Chargo. Insanely exuberant 2nd-year triathlete Paul Mollett was a jubilant 3rd. 2009 women's champ Kathleen Dewahl placed 2nd today, 1:21 behind Davitt. Stephanie Byland took the final podium spot. RESULTS

The 2009 Cinco Du Mayo Duathlon was contested under cool and windy conditions and had 42 finishers. The 2010 race was greeted by even colder temps (mid-30s)and was almost, but not quite, as breezy. And its field was perhaps four times larger than it was last year. The men's and women's long course records fell, the men's by a slim 12 seconds, the women's by a whopping 3:57. Doing the damage was defending champ Dereck Podratz (1:34:34) and Jenny Wilcox, whose outstanding 1:38:49 landed her in 4th place overall.

The new short course race--2 miles-10 miles - 2 miles--was won impressively by Fond du Lac, Wisconsin's Tim Petrie, who managed to hold off Stillwater's Jesse Nelson, and Casey Richter, 27, of Columbia Heights and the OptumHealth Performance Team (Coach Dan Cohen asked that we mention Casey's affiliation). The win was the first of Richter's promising young career.

Third annual Cinco Du Mayo Duathlon results will be available at the Tri Fitness website on Monday.
